Dragon Boat Race：
Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional holiday originating in China, occurring on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar, also known as 端午节 Duānwǔ Jié. The festival commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan, who was a loyal minister of the King of Chu in the third century BC. SICC, as the only non-governmental college for international students in Shanghai, has been invited to participate in the International students’ dragon boat race annually and bring more fun culture experience to students.
Excursions:
Shanghai, together with its nearby cities, is one of the must-visits destinations in China for tourists and visitors. As China’s centre of finance and economy, Shanghai has been highly reputed for its fast economic development as well as its perfect combination of preservation of Chinese tradition and history and modernization. SICC organizes excursions for our students not only to explore this appealing city but also to better integrate with a deeper understanding of Chinese history and local tradition.
Visits to Local Families:
Almost all students are facing not only language barriers but also culture shock when they first arrive in Shanghai. To help our students tackle and overcome culture shock and to feel more welcomed, SICC provides opportunity to visit and to spend one day with local volunteer families to our students, when students will get a clearer picture of how local families live daily and communicate with each other.
Visits to Companies or institutes:
SICC works closely to collaborate with various kinds of companies or enterprises in different industries to provide our students of Business Chinese with on-site visits, from which students gain practical experiences to apply Chinese as well as general concepts of how companies are run in Shanghai.
Multi-cultural Workshop and Seminars：
SICC not only provides professional language courses to students with various Chinese levels and different learning needs, but also lectures, workshops, seminars on intercultural adaptation for our students to help our students get accustomed to life in Shanghai in terms of language communication as well as cultural integration.
