As a consistent partner of NSLI-Y, a 6-week program for American high school students to learn Chinese and to experience Chinese culture in Shanghai, SICC has been contributing as the provider of Chinese classes to NSLI-Y students for 3 years!
【About NSLI-Y】
The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program was launched in 2006 to promote critical language learning among American youth. The U.S. Department of State, in cooperation with American Councils for International Education, awards and administers merit-based scholarships to high school students for participation in summer immersion programs in locations where the seven NSLI-Y languages are spoken.
【What We Do with NSLI-Y】
All the students on program are funded by governmental scholarship and are enrolled in various levels of Chinese classes. They will be given 120 hours of in-class language courses during the program in according to a large variety of activities uch as handicraft making, sightseeing around Shanghai and nearby cities, visits to volunteer host families, engagement in community voluntary service, etc. to practice their language skills and to immerse in the culture.

During the past six weeks, the young students not only improve their language proficiency in Chinese, but also enhance their intercultural competencies to communicate and to cooperate with people from different cultural background.
